‘You’re not the only girl’: Teen who claims she was abused as a boy in Texas dies at her home
Texas authorities on Friday identified the girl who died after she was hospitalized following an alleged assault at her family’s home in a Houston suburb.
The death was the first confirmed in the city since the arrest of a man who authorities said sexually assaulted the girl last week.
Authorities say the woman, identified as 18-year-old Lorna Smith, was taken to a hospital in the Houston suburb of Katy after she allegedly tried to choke her roommate and then went into cardiac arrest.
The roommate was not hurt.
Police say the roommate told investigators she was the victim of sexual abuse when she was about 10 years old and that she was often left alone in her room by her mother because she was a girl.
She said she was told she would have to do chores and was often denied her own bed.
